Red Victorian Bed, Breakfast and Art

- 31 Dec 2009

Owned by Sami Sunchild, an emblematic figure of Haight, the Red Victorian Bed, Breakfast and Art, or Red Vic for short, recreates the hippie era of San Francisco.

The rooms are inspired by this historic period: you can choose between “Summer of Love”, “Sunshine”, or “Earth”. Or rent a funky suite like “Peacock”. Some guest rooms don’t have private bathrooms, in which case you’ll have to share the four bathrooms down the hall with other guests. The hotel definitely was a great hotel back in times, but has lost most of its charm since. The hotel rooms are dusty, run-down and obviously not too well maintained.  This hotel is a miss and hit and some people will find their experience quite interesting. But everyone agrees : the hotel needs to be refreshened up.

Golden Gate Bed-and-Breakfast

- 26 Dec 2009

A perfect place to stay in SF

Summary : Modest and small rooms but clean, friendly, cozy and very well located

Built in the early 1900s, the Golden Gate Hotel is a real charmer, and has the old-fashioned feel of a traditional Bed and Breakfast. Located between Nob Hill and Union Square, it is within walking distance from theatres and restaurants. The hotel is a family-run business: John and Renate Kenaston and their daughter Gabriele are very hospitable and more than pleased to make their guests comfortable. Nicely decorated double rooms, breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m., parking at 22 $, Wi-Fi free of charge.
The breakfast is continental type and includes croissants, juice and coffee. In the afternoon, you will find tea and cookies. The bnb is located only one block off Powell St. cable car line and is from walking distance Union Square galleries and to the fabulous Chinatown.

St. Regis Hotel

- 26 Dec 2009

A nice hotel with a minimalist décor and dark woods, the St. Regis is located near the Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Gardens.

Ask for a room with a city view and you might get a room at 20th floor. From there, you’ll get a nice view over the skyscrapers. Rooms include: CD and DVD player, fax, printer, and the best features of all, a control panel that lets you operate everything from the comfort of your bed, from the phone to the temperature to the lights. Fitness center and swimming pool open 24/7, for hotel customers only. Also includes a sauna and a Jacuzzi, open to everyone until 8 p.m. The restaurant Ame, “rain” in Japanese, serves Japanese and Californian delicacies.

The St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco offers some of the most best relaxing hotel rooms in town. An excellent combination of great design and functionality makes this hotel a must-stay. In St. Regis, you will feel like you are living a life of decadence, from the faux shagreen to the leather covering the walls. The only small disappointment is the obvious aging of some of the furniture that would need some touch up to regain its vibe and shine. While the mattresses are good but not something to brag about, their Pratesi linens are wonderful and the bed are greatly made. However, if you decide to stay at the St. Regis, ask for a room that is not on Market St. side as it can become quite noisy during the day.

The hotel has a beautiful lobby and a very nice bar. If you are intending on working out during your stay, you will love the fitness area which is certainly better than many hotels. Not surprisingly, every single person at the hotel, (bell staff, spa staff, room service staff, cleaning staff), everyone will make you feel welcomed. St. Regis, a hotel you definitely ought to try (or return!)

Wonderful boutique hotel

One of the best hotels in Union Square, Hotel Adagio has a gorgeous modern style. Three giant lampshades hang in the lobby, and a nice elevator made of ironworks goes up along the red walls. Coffee and tea are available in the morning. Cookies and hot drinks are served in the lobby in the evening. For the gourmets out there, don’t miss the restaurant/bar Cortez.

Mandarin Oriental

- 18 Dec 2009

Stay for the beautiful view!

From the 38th to the 48th floor, where all the hotel rooms are located, you can admire the superb city view, especially when the fog rolls in below you. The nicely decorated rooms feature a classic Californian style with some Asian influence, and are linked together by an impressive sky bridge that does make you feel that you’re crossing the sky indeed. At the restaurant, the Silk, enjoy the Asian-influenced delicacies. If you need to keep yourself in shape, you’ll find no fitness center in the hotel but you can always go to Bay Club, which has a deal with the Mandarin Oriental.

San Francisco Hotel Reservations : Serrano Hotel

- 16 Dec 2009

Serrano Hotel – a Kimpton Hotel

Great rate and great place to stay!

Built in the 1920s, this 17-story hotel was designed by Cheryl Rowley and bears the Spanish Colonial Revival movement’s style, with a dash of Moroccan flair. The hotel features a fantastic, colourful lobby with fancy paintings and a large ornate fireplace, and vibrant guest rooms with oversize windows and theatre-themed artwork. The staff is friendly, the rooms are comfortable (albeit a little small), and they have wine happy hour from 5 to 6 pm. The only major downside is that the Serrano Hotel is located in Tenderloin, a neighborhood plagued with crime and poverty. Watch your back on your way to the hotel.

Powell Hotel San Francisco

- 13 Dec 2009

Powell Hotel

The Powell Hotel is conveniently located in Downtown San Francisco, only a few steps away from the famous cable cars. While the location is great, the hotel isn’t. Many costumers complained about the state of the rooms, which are not always clean, and because the hotel is close to the trolley area, it is quite noisy. But the biggest drawback is the presence of bed bugs, which can be very annoying as these little red bugs can be transported to your home in your suitcase and are hard to eradicate. Even though they are serving free beer, wine, and snack during happy hours, I’d recommend staying away from that hotel until they have their bedbugs problems under control!

Hotel Vitale San Francisco

- 09 Dec 2009

Hotel Vitale in San Francisco : a beautiful hotel with modern architecture and fittings

hotel-vitale-deluxe

Located along the Embarcadero neighborhood of the well-known Californian city, the Hotel Vitale opened its doors in 2005 and was an instant success. If you can afford it, rent a waterview room, facing the east.

While these rooms are more expensive, they offer a nice view of the Ferry Building Marketplace and the San Francisco Bay Bridge.

Hotel Vitale looks pretty neat, and the modern, super-comfy rooms are filled with high quality furnishings like flatscreen TVs, Ipod docking stations, and large, comfortable beds. Also included: a huge bathroom with walk-in shower, gourmet minibars, and for-sale bath products. If you feel hungry, there’s a decent (but not great) restaurant called Americano. The hotel staff is very hospitable and provides excellent room services.

There are a few quirks, however: the gym is lame, with only a few machines available, and because the hotel is located near a busy neighborhood, some costumers might complaint about the traffic noise. Still, the Hotel Vitale is a nice place to stay, especially if you rent a circular suite with a 270-degree view of San Francisco.
